Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Salaries

So in doing a whole lot of research into this, turns out there really isn’t a very accurate salary range to go by.  It seems to me that most oral and maxillofacial (head and neck) radiologists do a combination of part time teaching and part time private practice.  Part time teaching doesn’t really earn that much, the average at public schools being around 45 thousand.  Here are the salary ranges given by schools that I could find.

  • lowest pay: 28k
  • average pay: 45k
  • highest: 230k

Private practice I have reports but nothing solid

  • lowest: 90k working two hours a day
  • highest: 430k from a not very reliable source

In speaking with radiologists who practice from home, it seems like private practice is by far the way to go.  I spoke with a radiologist recently who without mentioning numbers, did say that hitting 200k a year is pretty easy working from home.  For my sake I hope that this is true.  I’m excited about teaching, always wanted to do something like that, but it seems to me like I will have to practice from home as well.

  1. As an OMFR you have the choice in private practice to work for a radiology clearing group. You will download scans and write your report on them. From home.
